4. What It Does

It occurred to me today that there are a lot of shack mods for Seyda Neen, and they tend to be criticised – usually rather unfairly since they’re often first mods – for being “not terribly exciting”. After all, just how interesting can a shack in Seyda Neen be?

I decided that I’d spend an afternoon making the sort of Seyda Neen shack that your character might actually want to live in. This one is very ordinary at first glance – it’s just a little shack – but the inside is much bigger than the outside.

I’ve made partitions to create proper rooms, so there is a kitchen-dining room, a bathroom and a bedroom. The kitchen-dining room has a Redoran hearth, cupboards and hutch. The dining area also has an upholstered seating area. The bathroom has a medieval-style wooden lavatory and a metal bath. The bedroom has a double bed, with a bedroll underneath for guests. There is also a closet and plenty of storage throughout the house. A number of low value weapons and misc items are used as decoration. Some of the books are quite high in value, but I wanted to include books that people would actually want to *read*.

In addition to the three rooms, there is also a rear “garden” consisting of a dock balcony, with a table and seating. A small rowing boat bobs gently on the water underneath the dock. Potted plants and lanterns complete the decoration.

The shack is designed to suggest that a fisherman has lived there.

** TO BUY THE COTTAGE **

Find the shack next to the Census office in Seyda Neen. Read the note on the door (this adds the topic “Water’s Edge Cottage”). The topic should now appear in Arrille’s dialogue. Pay him 2000 gold to purchase the shack.

(He should not sell you the cottage again unless you lose the key.)
